If someone has Diabetes and macular degeneration, Do they still need to have a yearly dilated eye exam? - macular degeneration. more condition_symptoms

I have a few subject of diabetic patients that the state will be no need for an extended examination of the eyes, because they have macular degeneration. If this is true, what is the reason for all this? If this is not true, what is the reason?

Macular degeneration (MD) is affecting only a complication of diabetes, vision. ) With MD, a visual acuity go well, but you can still feel the light and the international movement (Blur. The eye is still useful.

The dreaded complication is retinopathy, but. As elsewhere in the body, are the vessels in the eyes also are affected (because the excess glucose in the blood, in particular products which are formed deposited in the vessel wall. That makes them hard and narrow, so) with retinopathy,
1. Rigid vessels are not flexible and can burst and cause bleeding in the eye, that they make completely blind.

2. Ships Lead is tightly fixed to less oxygen in the retina. Due to the inherent reflexes of the body, some chemicals that are released in areas that do not) to benefit from the blood (oxygen to increase new blood vessels in an attempt to form the oxygen supply. Pop However bleed these "new" blood vessels perfectly and easily, leading to complete blindness.

3. Small hemorrhages (the blindness) results are mind healingI fear (like a bruise) on other body parts. The scar tissue contracts. This follows from the retina of the bed of his "leading to a retinal detachment and degeneration of the past and the blindness that results.

I do not intend to give a lecture on ophhtalmology, but you see, is a must for regular registration for diabetics. Needless to say, that blood sugar is particularly important virgin!

Good luck with your patients ... satisfied that the job is enough (my mother is diabetic retinopathy, so I know what it means sufficient to save the doc!)

"How can I care for my vision that I now have AMD?

Dry AMD. If you have dry AMD, you should have a comprehensive eye examination at least once a year, expands. Your eye doctor can monitor your condition and check for other eye diseases. Even if you have intermediate AMD in one or both eyes or advanced AMD in one eye, your doctor may suggest you take the AREDS formulation containing a high content of antioxidants and zinc.

Because dry AMD can turn into wet AMD at any time, you should go to a Amsler grid from your eye doctor. Use the grid every day vision signs of wet AMD assessed. This quick test works best for people who still have a good central vision. Check each eye separately. Cover one eye and look at the grill. Then cover the other eye and look at the starting grid. If you detect a change in the appearance of this grid or in your everyday vision while reading the newspaper or watch television, take a look wide and extendsXam.

You need more than most. You have a problem that needs to be pursued. Because they macular degeneration, which usually begins as always, the dry form, they are at increased risk of wet macular degeneration, which undergo treatment.

You mean, they test the advanced macular degeneration and does not require any of retinopathy? I can not imagine, "said an eye doctor, do not need to check everything for every situation.

It's hard to believe that diabetes and macular degeneration, your eye doctor will not do a thorough eye exam each year. Why are you taking a risk with a vision (or what is left of it), because they two diseases, which steal your vision?
